In the News

Youth Voices United for Change Conference, held Friday November 21, 2008, informed and educated 350 high school students from Andrew Hill, James Lick, Mt. Pleasant, Independence, Foothill, Sacred Heart and De Anza students, on social issues that they face today while at the same time offering an opportunity to create positive solutions and action plans directed to  creating constructive change in their schools and communities.  The high school students were inspired to become strong leaders within their own community and school while enjoying their experiences with their peers optimism, support, and hope.  A mini grant to targeted high schools will be available in the Winter  of 2009 as a conference follow-up with the schools and students to further develop and implement the social actions generated at the conference.

Our many thanks to the the schools that attended, to the Youth Voices Conference Committee, De Anza College Office of Outreach and School Relations, the De Anza College Financial Aid Office, De Anza student leaders and volunteers and ICCE staff who contributed to the success of the conference.

One student who attended the conference, Diana Alvarado stated, "What I learned at the conference, that I will apply at my community is to show the youth of today that we can make change and have the power to achieve our goals."
