"For the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that
things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the
number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs."
-George Eliot, Middlemarch
I am a full-time instructor in English at De Anza College. With Chesa Caparas, I help to support the Latina/o Empowerment at De Anza (LEAD) community. In addition to teaching in LEAD, I also teach in the CREM (Counseling, Reading, English, Math) cohort program. I love working with De Anza students and I'm thrilled to be a part of the De Anza community.
My pedagogical goal is to help students build strong reading, writing, and thinking skills that will serve them both in and out of the classroom. In my writing classes,
- the work is collaborative - students work with me and with each other.
- we focus on topics such as climate change and disaster, migration, racism, and cities.
- I encourage students to understand reading and writing in relation to communities outside of the classroom.
If this sounds like fun, then sign up for a class with me!
I am also a faculty advisor for the Sexuality and Gender Alliance (SAGA), an inclusive LGBTQ club at De Anza. If you are interested in more information about SAGA, you should email the club officers!
Students who are enrolled in my classes can access the syllabus through the Canvas page. Anyone else who is interested in my syllabi should send me an email.
