Equity Champion Awards

EAC logoCongratulations to this year’s Equity Champion Award winners! The awards celebrate individuals and groups who are representing equity in their work., This year's winners include:

Nonprofit Showcase This Friday, June 12

Innovation Center logoThe Innovation Center will be hosting a panel of nonprofit representatives at the Voices of Impact: Nonprofit Showcase this Friday, June 12, from 3-5 p.m., in MLC 105. The nonprofits are involved in causes such as environmental work, animal welfare, youth empowerment and family support. Panelists include:

Child Development Event This Saturday, June 14

Everyone’s invited to check out games and activities at Discovery Zone 1.0 this Saturday, June 14, in the S Quad. The event is jointly hosted by the Child Development and Education Department, Career Technical Education Division, the California Apprenticeship Initiative and Child Care Providers United. Activities include:

  • Child Development and Education career fair
  • Music and entertainment
  • Arts and crafts stations
  • Student-led projects
  • Play inflatables
  • Interactive activity zones
  • Community partner tables

The Discovery Zone is open to students, families and members of the local community.

Spring Student Concert This Saturday, June 14

The Music Department will be holding its quarterly student music concert this Saturday, June 14, at 7 p.m., in the Visual and Performing Arts Center. The Chamber Orchestra, Vintage Singers and De Anza Chorale will be performing pieces from popular musicals and Disney films. The student jazz vocal ensemble and Vocal Flight will also be performing.

Admission is $5 for students and $10 for the general public. All proceeds support student performances in the music department.


City of Cupertino Event

Join the city of Cupertino for the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the newly renovated all-inclusive playground at Jollyman Park this Friday, June 13, from 1-2 p.m. 

The playground is designed to be accessible for individuals of all ages and abilities, promoting recreation and social interaction for people with and without special needs.


Graduation Is Sunday, June 29

Apply for Your Degree and Order Grad Packs

This year's collegewide grad ceremony will be held on Sunday, June 29, beginning at 3 p.m. in the Santa Clara Convention Center, 5001 Great America Parkway, Santa Clara, California.

Everyone is invited to submit digital Congrats Cards for a favorite grad, or the entire Class of 2025.

If you're planning to graduate this year, please remember these deadlines:

  • File for your degree by Monday, June 16, if you want your name listed in the printed souvenir program.
  • Order your grad pack – including cap, gown, tassel and diploma cover – and other regalia no later than Monday, June 16, so items arrive in time for the big day. 
  • Submit a message and photo for the optional Graduation Slideshow no later than Monday, June 23.

There is no deadline to participate in the commencement ceremony, but you must apply for your degree by June 27 in order to have it awarded for spring quarter.

Share Your Good News

Have you been accepted to a four-year institution? Let us know which college or university you are attending by filling out the Share Your Good News form. You will also have the option to be added to the Transfer Center’s mailing list to receive updates on events like the Transfer Achievement Celebrations on Monday, June 16, and Tuesday, June 17.

Afrojazz Night Next Monday, June 16

The Music Department is hosting an Afrojazz Night at the Visual and Performing Arts Center next Monday, June 16, at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend the concert and celebrate the students from the jazz program. Admission is $5 for students and $10 for the general public. All proceeds support student performances in the music department.

De-Stress With Llamas Next Wednesday, June 18

Feeling stressed? Come unwind with De Anza Student Government at their De-Stress event next Wednesday, June 18, from noon-2 p.m., on the S Quad lawn. You can:

  • Hang out with three friendly llamas
  • Enjoy free boba
  • Take a moment to breathe, relax and recharge

NASA Ames Speaker

Eugene Tu at podiumEugene L. Tu at Cupertino Community Hall June 25

Eugene L. Tu, director of NASA Ames Research Center, will be giving an overview of NASA Ames as part of the Cupertino Chamber of Commerce’s Science and Technology Speaker Series.

The event will take place Wednesday, June 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the Cupertino Community Hall, 10350 Torre Ave., Cupertino, CA 95014. Please register in advance to attend. Attendance is free.


Student Spotlight

Students Win First Place in National Business Competition

FBLA Accounting Team First PlaceDe Anza students won two first place awards in competition against business and accounting students from nearly 150 colleges and universities, at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Leadership Conference in Dallas last week.

Two teams from De Anza won national championships by earning the top scores in case study presentations in the categories of accounting and hospitality management. De Anza students also placed second in the business ethics and community service categories, and third in the marketing, sales and communication category.

The championship team for accounting included Alan Dang, Katelyn Nguyen, Yihan Pan and Rachel Tran. First-place winners for hospitality management were Allissa Ilda, Taranjit Kaur, Jasmine Perlas and Christina Tran.

All told, 40 students from De Anza competed against nearly 900 students from around the country. De Anza’s FBLA chapter is led by President Javin Ku and officers Alan Dang, Zain Darwish and Van Loc Nguyen. Accounting instructor Jeffrey West is their club adviser.


De Anza Academy

There's Still Time to Enroll

young students around tableParents can register K-12th graders now for programs offered this summer by the De Anza College Academy. Classes start Monday, June 30, and run through Friday, July 25. The academy is open to students of all school districts. Registration is open now through Thursday, June 26.

Courses for middle and high school students will include robotics, coding, 3D printing, science, sports, writing, mathematics, graphic design and more. Art classes for kindergarten through fifth grade students will also be offered at West Valley Elementary.

De Anza Academy courses are taught only for enrichment purposes – credits, grades and homework are not offered. Spots fill quickly, so make sure to register soon.
