Disability Support Services Scholarships

DSS scholarship applications are available sometime in the fall quarter. Check regularly for updates through the Financial Aid Office Scholarships and for a comprehensive list of all Scholarships.

Schoettler Scholarship

The Schoettler Scholarship is for current students with a verified physical disability, who must meet the following criteria:

  • Have a Disability Verification on file with De Anza's Disability Support Services (DSS)
  • Be currently enrolled in 6 units at De Anza College
  • Completed at least 12 units at De Anza College
  • Enrolled in an A.A. Degree, or is planning to Transfer
  • Applicant can apply for the Schoettler scholarship at only one college – either De Anza or Foothill
  • Student is responsible to carefully review the scholarship criteria listed on the Financial Aid website

De Anza Great Perseverance Scholarship

This scholarship recognizes 1st generation college students who have overcome great hardship. Student must be first in their family to go to college and is required to meet the following criteria:

  • Have a disability
  • Overcame economic hardship
  • Re-entered college after a period of absence
  • Single parent, etc., and who have persevered academically  
  • 2.0 GPA
  • Evidence of perseverance through personal statement
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Financial need
  • Verification of disability
  • Student is responsible to carefully review the scholarship criteria listed on the Financial Aid website

Carl L. Brown Scholarship

This scholarship is for students who have overcome adversity due to their disability and are making use of assistive technology and/or alternate media to achieve their educational, career, and life goals. Student is required to meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in a minimum of 6 units at De Anza College
  • Have completed at least 12 units at De Anza College
  • Have a Disability Verification on file with De Anza's Disability Support Services (DSS)
  • Have a 2.5 GPA
  • Write a one-page essay describing how you have overcome your adversity and how the use of assistive technology has supported you in achieving your educational goals and your vision for success in college and in life.
